How the Claims Process Works
Contact Us
Call our office or use the form below to let us know what happened. We will gather the basic details and get the claim started with your carrier right away.
We File on Your Behalf
We handle the paperwork and submit your claim to your insurance company. We know the process, the terminology, and the people on the other end of the phone.
Adjuster Inspection
The insurance company will assign an adjuster to inspect the damage and determine the covered amount. We stay in contact throughout and help you understand what is happening.
Settlement & Recovery
Once the adjuster completes their review, the carrier issues a settlement. If the initial amount does not seem right, we advocate on your behalf and push for a fair resolution.

Tips for a Smooth Claims Experience
- Document everything — Take photos and videos of the damage as soon as it is safe to do so. The more documentation you have, the stronger your claim.
- Do not dispose of damaged items — Keep damaged property until the adjuster has inspected it and given you the go-ahead.
- Make temporary repairs — It is OK to prevent further damage (tarp a leaking roof, board up a broken window), but save receipts for reimbursement.
- Keep receipts for additional living expenses — If you need to stay in a hotel or eat out because your home is uninhabitable, keep all receipts.
- Do not sign anything you do not understand — If a contractor or third party asks you to sign something, call us first.
- Call us with questions — That is what we are here for. No question is too small.
Frequently Asked Questions About Insurance Claims
Will filing a claim raise my insurance rates?
Not necessarily. With Erie Insurance and ERIE Rate Lock, your rate stays the same even after a claim. With other carriers, the impact depends on the type and frequency of claims. We can advise you on whether filing a particular claim makes sense for your situation.
How long does it take to settle an insurance claim?
Simple claims like a windshield replacement can be settled in days. More complex claims involving structural damage or liability disputes may take weeks or months. We stay on top of every claim and push for timely resolution.
What if I disagree with the insurance company’s settlement offer?
Call us. As your agent, we can review the settlement, identify areas where you may be entitled to more, and negotiate with the carrier on your behalf. That is one of the biggest advantages of having a local agent rather than dealing with a 1-800 number.
